Schools

The City of Dayton is serviced by the Dayton Independent School District. The district operates independently from the City of Dayton, guided by their own administration and funded by their own taxes.

Driver License and Registration

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees state driver licenses and ID cards. New residents are permitted to drive with a valid, unexpired license for 90 days following a move. There is a DPS office located in Liberty located at 2103 Cos Street. They can be contacted by calling 936-336-7343 or by email.

Vehicle Registration and License Plates

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles handles vehicle registration and license plates. Vehicles must be inspected before they are registered in the state of Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety provides a list of inspection sites and current fees.

Public Transportation

The Liberty - Dayton Circular is a project of the Brazos Transit District and is designed to bring public transit service to the city of Dayton. Brazos Transit provides affordable and convenient transportation services and infrastructure to allow the general public access to goods and services. Utilities

Electric service in Dayton is provided by Entergy.

Gas service is provided by CenterPoint Energy. To arrange for service connection you can visit them online or call 713-659-2111.

 Internet service is provided by the DayNet through the City of Dayton.

Cable television, and telephone is provided by AT&T, Comcast, or Xfinity.

Trash and Recycling billing is handled by the City of Dayton, though service is provided under contract by Frontier Waste Services. Service begins automatically when new residents request water and sewer service. Water and Sewer service is handled by the City of Dayton.

Pets and Animals

Dogs and cats must wear a collar with vaccination tags at all times.

Taxes and Appraisals

The sales tax rate for the City of Dayton 8.25%.

Property taxes are collected by Liberty County and are based on the property's appraised value.

The Liberty County Appraisal District appraises all property in Liberty County to determine value. Like Liberty County and the state of Texas, the City of Dayton does not collect an income tax.

Voting

To vote in Texas, you must be registered at least 30 days prior to an election. As a resident of Liberty County you can find voter registration and election information through Liberty County. Additional information is available at votetexas.gov.
